Panda and Seven:
Mom had to go to New Jersey for orientation for her now mortgage company. She flew into Philadelphia and apparently got stuck on the Walt Whitman bridge in rush hour. Her rental car was a little tiny Chevy Aveo and the bridge was shaking and rattling and apparently the whole thing was kinda scary.
Anyway....mom finally got to her hotel - The Tuscany House - and went to check in. We should let you know that the hotel is in Egg Harbor City and is in the middle of nowhere! Nothing for about 5 miles in either direction. It is part of a winery called the Renault Winery. So, when mom went to check in the person at the front desk told our mom that there was only her and one other guest staying at the hotel so they were going to close the hotel down at 10pm. They told her she wouldn't be able to leave her room after 10pm because she would set off the alarms. Mom said that was fine then went to go unpack and have dinner.
She went and sat at the bar to have dinner and in conversation with the bartender told him about the "shutting down the hotel" plan. He said that wasn't unusual for the hotel. But THEN - he said "you know you are in the Pine Barrens, right? You HAVE heard of the Jersey devil, right?"
Well, our mom said that was information that she really didn't need at that moment. Of COURSE she knows about the Jersey Devil - she is a horror movie fanatic!!! So, mom finished dinner and went up to her room - the entire hotel was dark - no lights in the hallways, no other humans to be seen. So she locked up her door and then went to close the curtains to the room. Upon going to the window she discovered that her hotel room faced out the back of the hotel (of course) and looked out on nothing but woods. So now mom was thinking about the fact that she is in this huge hotel in the middle of absolutely nowhere, completely alone. No idea who the other guest is or if there even IS another guest in the hotel. And she is where the Jersey Devil originated and it is dark as a bear's butt outside. So she started thinking about some drooling, slobbering, long-fanged devil creature lurking at the edge of the woods and just waiting for her to turn out the lights!
Needless to say, mom didn't fall asleep for quite a while and didn't sleep very well at all. The next morning when she went to leave she STILL didn't see a single person - nobody - anywhere. Very weird. She said she was expecting an ax through the door and a "here's Johnny" at any moment!! She also said "if that hotel would have had a maze I would have been out of there."
We don't really know a whole lot about this, so we may have to check out this movie called The Shining to see what she is talking about. We are glad we were at home under the bed where it is safe.
But now we wonder - are there other areas of the country where scary creatures live and mom is going to take us there in the house on wheels? We won't feel safe then!! Will we see the Mothman, Bigfoot, the Jersey Devil, UFO's????? Wow - this adds a whole new dimension to the "traveling cats" idea.
We are kind of disturbed, we might need therapy.
Welcome to our Blog
This is Panda. I am a 12 yr old long-haired black and white cat. My Mom (Sherri) saved me from the Humane Society in Scottsdale, Arizona when I was 8 weeks old. She's the best mom ever. I am completely spoiled rotten but I kinda like it. I make sure that I spend a lot of time curled on Mom's feet or sleeping in her lap so she knows that I appreciate being spoiled. And I think it's so nice of her to let me have a pillow on the bed all to myself! But just so Mom feels special too I always go to sleep first curled up as close to her face as I can get. That way she won't forget me! And when she falls asleep I kinda sneak on over to my own pillow. But ssshhhh...don't tell her.
This is Seven. I am a 3 yr old long haired tabby-colored cat. A lot of people ask my Mom if I'm a Mancoon. She says she doesn't know and I'm not tellin'. All I know is I'm pretty special. I was rescued from the Humane Society in Huntersville, North Carolina when I was 7 weeks old. Panda told me that he had a brother before me named Boobookitty. Mom had Boobookitty for 19 years (wow!) and when he passed away May 7th of 2009 she was really, really sad. But Mom decided that Boobookitty's passing would save a life and so she came and got me. I think I would have liked Boobookitty - Panda says he was pretty hot stuff. My name is Seven because of the day he went to cat heaven and that makes me feel even more special. Not that I needed any help there - I am king of the world. Just ask me, I'll tell you.
So this page is all about us going on the road. We decided that we should tell the story since we all know that felines are far superior to humans. So, read our story and come along for the ride!
